As many in our community are aware, the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions have been instrumental in our school history. During the first week of June a dwarf flowering gum was planted on the oval at Our Lady of Fatima School to honour the importance of the Sisters to the history of our school community. Sister Shelley, Sister Veronica and Sister Margaret explained that part of their mission is to plant trees around the world, to honour Pope Francis’ call to care for our earth in his encyclical Laudato Si.
Our little dwarf tree is planted alongside the fence on Hammad St, and our Year 5 class are going to be its custodians over the next few months to help make it strong. The Sisters have requested that the tree be named Euphrasie Eucalyptus, after the founder of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions https://rndmaustralia.org.au/euphrasie/.
